Charity is not Enough!

It is quite easy to live life by ignoring problems around you which are not directly related to you. However, it is not the best way tolive. Indeed it is very insensitive way to live your life. By closing your eyes, reality will not change. Quantum physics does not work at this level.

I am talking about poor and underprivileged peoples. There is no end to their suffering. Every winter people die because of extreme cold as they do not have shelter and woollen cloth to keep them warm. In summer they die because of extreme hot temperature. In between they die because of hunger, malnutrition and due to non-availability of medicine and healthcare.

All this happens around us. We read in newspapers, watch inTV and sometimes saw from our own eyes. But instead of doing something, we gossip about it and move on! As if someone else has to do something for them. Manypeople hold government responsible as if someone else elected government forthem. In democracy, it is responsibility of every citizen to be politicallyactive and caste vote to right candidate. Blaming government is futile. As blame come back to us.

It is not that no one is doing anything for them, there are many NGO’s doing remarkable work to help needy people. The main problem is at individual level. We have time for everything except to help someone to live life better. You might consider yourself nice person because you regularly give charity. But did you ever enquire whether your charity is reaching to right hand or it is consumed before by others?  According to one Hindustan Times report:

“The Delhi high court has called for toughening of licensing norms for NGOs observing that 99% of them are “fraud” and “merely money making devices”.

In such scenario, giving charity is not enough. On contrary, it may happen that your charity is being used for wrong purposes. The best way out is to check personally where your money is going or find needy people around you and help them in whatever way you can. Your little time and effort can bring huge change in someone’s life.

Charity is not the only way to help. Sometimes your kind words, a smile and little time can make bigger impact then money. It is not always the poor who need help, sometimes well to do peoples stuck in such situation that they are on mercy of poor peoples. Surprisingly, they never let you down. Thus, do not think yourself superior and other inferior if you are helping them. We all are human and we all are equal. It is our responsibility to help those who left behind because of various reasons. Love all, help others and hate none.

Alcohol: Evil of Modern Society

Except few Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Potable alcohol generally known as Wine or Liquor is on sale every where with various names like Scotch, champagne, Brandy, Whisky, Jin, Rum, Tequila, vodka and beer. Whatever be the name, all Alcoholic beverages are addictive and harmful.

Yearly Expenditure on advertisement of Liquor: As reported on multinational monitor website “Alcohol companies spend close to $2 billion every year advertising in the United States alone. From 2001 to 2007, they aired more than 2 million television ads and published more than 20,000 magazine advertisements.”

Health Hazard of Consuming Alcohol: According to WHO report, “alcohol consumption has been identifi ed as carcinogenic for the following cancer categories (Baan et al., 2007): cancers of the colorectum, female breast, larynx, liver, oesophagus, oral cavity and pharynx. The higher the consumption of alcohol, the greater the risk for these cancers: even the consumption of two drinks per day causes an increased risk for some cancers, such as breast cancer (Hamajima et al., 2002).”

According to an estimate, around 2.5 million people die yearly because of over indulgence of Alcholic beverages. In US alone,  each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well as hundreds from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings.

Social Evil of Consuming Alcohol:

  • Drunken drive: Alcohol is not only harmful to the person consuming it but also to other persons who are not consuming it. It is very hard to drink in control way. Especially during parties, people over drink and drive back to home and make accidents. When they come out of their hangover, they found themselves in police lockup with charges of killing someone.
  • Teenage Alcoholism: In US alone, each year, approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking; this includes about 1,900 deaths from motor vehicle crashes, 1,600 as a result of homicides, 300 from suicide, as well as hundreds from other injuries such as falls, burns, and drownings. Huge spending on liquor ads is primary cause of teenage alcoholism. Secondary cause is culture and tradition of some countries where alcohol consumption is not considered bad because of religious reasons.
  • Domestic Violence: Domestic violence due to excessive alcohol drinking is common in developing countries like India where drinking is not strictly against religion. In Vadas and other Hindu scriptures, gods shown to consume Somrasa aka wine. Most of poor and middle class man came home in night after drinking and beat wife for trivial issues. In morning, they apologise and life goes on like that.

We should not make ourselves slaves to our own habits. You may try to drink wine in a controlled way, but wine is actually habit forming, and someday, if you want wine and cannot find any, you will feel annoyed. Wine may have benefits, if consumed in a controlled way, but it is most often not possible to drink in a controlled way. When you are drunk, you may lose control and even consciousness, but you are still responsible for your actions, including actions which you will do unknowingly. There are many cases of drunken drivers killing people by accident and then repenting for their whole lives for that one mistake. We should not indulge in anything habit forming, especially anything which makes us lose control or consciousness. Unfortunately, wine does both. So it is better to be avoided completely (or at least to drink in such a small quantity that you do not ever lose control or consciousness). Preferably, it should be consumed at home, at night, and, again, in small quantities. But, truly, it is much better if you avoid it altogether from the beginning, because once you start consuming alcohol, you will become enslaved and never know when you will break your own rule. There are people who say that we each must try everything. This is a ridiculous way to justify drinking alcohol. If we must try everything, will you now try drinking urine? Or sewage water? Or bitter-gourd juice ? It is great to try something new if it is good for us. But something which is habit forming is a terrible thing to try. My German boss, who loved beer more than anything, used to skip antibiotics when he fell sick because he didn’t want to give up drinking beer, and the two can’t be consumed together. Is that not pathetic? I repeat: Do not enslave yourself to any habit-forming and/or unhealthy thing. We can enjoy the world as long as we are healthy. So we must take good care of our bodies

I. Is it true that drinking lemon with water can help you reduce your tummy fat.

Hi friends,

Today I am starting a very interesting series of short post about fake news, superstitions, and wrong information floating on internet. In every post, I will cover one topic and try to reveal the truth.

Today’s post is about Whether lemonade or lemon with water helps in reducing weight.

You might have encounter at least one article describing how drinking lemon with water can help you reduce your tummy fat drastically within short span of time.

However, this may not be true. “Hot water with lemon in and of itself does not cause any actual weight loss,” says Alissa Rumsey, R.D., a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. However, if this drink is replacing a beverage that is higher in calories, like coffee with sugar or fruit juice – and that results in a calorie deficit – then it can help you lose weight.

Drinking water –whether hot or cold, infused with lemon, or plain –also helps keep your metabolism humming. “Staying hydrated is an important component of a healthy diet because it boosts your metabolism,” says Rumsey. “For those that don’t enjoy plain water, adding some lemon is a great way to boost the flavor without adding calories.”

Moreover, before starting drinking lemon water daily, please consider the side effect of Lemon contains citric acid, which may erode tooth enamel. In addition, lemon contains vitamin C that encourages iron absorption in the body. Too much of it can lead to an increase in the blood levels of iron. Which can damage organs. The acids in lemon juice can cause gastrointestinal side effects. Acidic foods may worsen symptoms of gastrointestinal reflux disease, or GERD, and some people get an upset stomach when they consume too much ascorbic acid.

However, lemon juice has many other health benefits, but over dose of lemon-juice can cause the many problem. Drink one or two lemon juice with water without sugar daily for  health benefits. But for weight reduction try other options than to drink lemonade.

Are we really helping society by distributing free food?

I always wonder why we have not yet eradicated starvation when so many organisations are distributing free food and other edibles? Truth is, by distributing free food we cannot achieve anything. By distributing free food, you are making people lazy and not interested in working anymore.

Around the world and especially in India, free food is distributed from decades. Still, population of people eating free food is increasing annually. If free food is solution of hunger, population which depends on free food must decrease over time but as mentioned above, population is increasing. Even after spending billions of Dollars daily, we are at the same situation. Every day we need even more food to serve.Below are some organisations working in this field:

  • Hare Krishna Food for Life is the world’s largest vegetarian non-profit food relief organization. It provide up to 2,000,000 free meals daily.
  • The Feeding America network distributed more than 3.6 billion meals to people in need in last one year.
  • At the Sikh Golden Temple in Amritsar, India, nearly 100,000 people eat on an average day.

My intention of writing this post is not to discredit the noble work done by above organisation but to highlight the root cause.

A person needs free food when he/she does not have a source of income. Instead of distributing free food, if we utilise this money in providing education, skill development and generating employment then there will not be any need for free food.

Never give up!

We all face difficulties in our life at some point of time; however, different people handle such situation differently. How you tackle your problems determine what kind of person you are! Different approach can work for different people, but one who never gives up always succeeds.

Life is the best thing we have; however, that does not mean life is simple or fair. Very few things are simple in life. Life is unpredictable and it is not necessary that good deeds results in good return. Most often, you are not rewarded for your good deeds, on the contrary sometimes you face worst results after helping someone. For example: you saw someone standing on lonely road in hot summer afternoon for lift, you stopped your car and let him in. As he sits inside your car he took out his gun and asked you to step out of car and handover all your  expensive things to him. Not only he robbed everything from you but also, left you alone on a highway in hot afternoon.

Let me give you a real life example of Dr. Kafeel Khan from UP, India. Dr. Kafeel, a paediatrician at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College saved life of several babies who would have died due to the scarcity of oxygen cylinders in hospital. He called everyone and arranged as many oxygen cylinders as he could for babies. Still 30 children died due to insufficient supply of oxygen. He was booked for the oxygen supply tragedy just because he was a Muslim and sent to Jail. He has been released on bail by the high court only recently, after the court found no evidence to prove medical negligence on part of Dr Kafeel Khan in dispelling his duties to save the children. Story does not end here. When he came out of Jail, his younger brother was shot and hospitalize. A saviour became victim of politics.

Do not do good in expectation of good return. If you are God fearing person, do good for your lord, if you are non religious, do good for your own happiness. However, do not expect from others, rewards of your goodness. You will always be disappointed. In short term, life is not fair. But in long term it might be preparing you for bigger challenges. So, Never give up. Think what life is asking from you? How you can change situation upside down. Where there is a will there is a way.

When Winston Churchill, who served as the prime minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1955, was asked to give speech in a university, he gave a speech containing most powerful message for everyone. He said Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense.”

Despite the growth of the clean eating moment, the prevalence of obesity and non-communicable diseases is continuing to climb. The World Health Organization’s nutritional recommendations, if followed to the letter, would save millions of lives, and the food industry has a critical role to play in that process. We take a look at what the […]
