A conversation with an Atheist (Part-II)

For part-I Click here.

Me: Tell me how this world come into existence if there is no creator.

Atul: Ha, ha ha. Why you all religious peoples ask same question? Anyhow. You answer me first. If without creator nothing can exist then who created the God? How he can exist without creator? I can explain existence of universe without God using Science.

Me: (I interrupted ) God does not need creator by definition. He is neither born and nor created. He existed for even.

Atul: How do you know that?

ME: It is written in Quran and hadees books.

Atul: This is call circular argument. Without proving your scripture, you are using it as authority. By definition is not a logical answer. Show me the evidence.

Me: God is transidendent . He created the universe so he must be out of the universe right.

Atul: Now you are making special pledging. When everything else exist inside the universe, how you can possibly claim that something exists outside it. My friend extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. But I am sorry you have produce nothing to support your belief. You just have a blind faith on your religion.

Me: Do you have proof of evolution? Or what happened before big bang?

Atul: We are talking about Atheism not about Science. This is common misconception that atheism depends on Science specially evolution. However, that is not true. There were atheist in Roman, Greek and ancient Indian civilizations. Atheism did not came from science. Science came from atheism. When people started asking question and searching for answers without invoking god, then science came into existence. Science gives rational and logical answer and most importantly, results are experimentally verifiable. Religions are only based on blind faith. I believe so it is.

ME: So if you do not need science, tell me how you come to this world. Who made it and why there is something rather than nothing.

Atul: Now you are asking question from classical philosophy-why there is something. My friend there can be two condition. 1) There exist something, 2) Nothing exist. If there will be nothing we will not sit here and discuss about something. Nothing can exist but fortunately or unfortunately something exists and we are here.  Our existence is a proof that something always existed. Whether it was low energy level quantum fluctuations or hydrogen gas or dark matter and energy or whatever say creator for your sake. Because logically, something cannot come from absolute nothing. You must be aware of law of conservation of mass and energy. Matter and energy keep on transforming. Coming back to your question, just because you can frame a grammatically correct question does not mean that question is logical. For example: If I ask you what is the size of your sorrow? Philosophically, you can think over it for ages, but logically it has not meaning. What is the color of jealousy? This is another such question.

Regarding your first question, I came from my parents. I was not present when this world was formed. I do not know can be my answer as an Atheist. However, science is my best bet to know about formation of world because science is testable.

Me: How you can rely on science when it keep changing. Newtonian Physics replaced by Einstein theory of relativity.  Every day we see someone proving some scientific theory wrong and proposing new theory.

Atul: This is the beauty of science that we can challenge wrong theory or better call hypothesis. Even today we use Newtonian Physics for all practical purposes even for launching rockets or for sending probes to mars. Einstein only prove that when we reach speed of light, Newtonian Physics does not gives accurate result. So, it is an approximation of theory of relativity. Scientist are also human. Do not expect divinity from them. I do not rely on Science. I rely on my senses.

Me: Earlier you said your Atheism does not depend on science, so why are you Atheist? Just to enjoy your life?

Atul: (Smilingly) I have many religious friends who are enjoying life equally because they do not take religion seriously to die for. So, I do not have to be atheist to enjoy life. I am atheist because religions and their so called divine scriptures like Vedas for Hindus does not make sense for me. They are outdated books written by some intellectuals of that time. However, at present they do not contain any truth. Science has surpass all the information available in these scriptures. There is nothing in scriptures that point to divine revelation.

I am agnostic because there is no point in living in ignorance and dreaming about a world, which does not exist. Religion is like opium. It gives you fake consolation and dreams of heaven and hell.

Me: You agree that Religion gives consolation. Whether fake or real is different story. What your issue is in becoming religious even if it is not true. There is always some chances that it may be true.

Atul: Answer will be very long; I will try to explain in short. Firstly, mind once stretch by an idea never regain its original shape. I tried one time to be religious again for the sake of my parents and sister. They love me so much and keep insisting me to come back to religious faith. I tried hard but something inside my mind rebel strongly. Every time I went to temple, my mind start asking question why I am here. Why I am praying to a stone idol? When I read my scripture or someone praise religion in our home for some stupid reason I feel very angry. Finally I give up. I can’t even pretend to be religious. I said sorry to my parents and luckily they understand my situation. I am lucky that I have so much loving parents and sister. I know many Atheist, mostly Muslims whom their parents and family members never accept. This is not good.

Me: If you find your son drinking poison, will you not stop him.

Atul: Yes, I will, but who are you to judge what poison is for him. May be what you are offering him is a slow poison. Also, I am not talking about kids, I am talking about adults. At least they should have freedom to choose what is right for them.

Me: Parents always know better. They think for your good.

Atul: Not always. Actually new generation in most of the cases is smarter than old generation. Because new generation has knowledge of old generation. Thus, It will be wrong to assert that parents are always right or they know more than us. Yes, they can have more experience in some field but not in all.

Me: Are you suggesting that parents should let their children to do whatever they want to do. Whether moral or immoral?

Atul: No, I am not saying that. Parents should always be there to guide them but must not force them. Encourage them to ask question and find solutions. Once they reach critical thinking age, let them decide for themselves. One that is force is never forceful. Parents must stop indoctrinating their children.

Me: I do not have blind faith in my religion; I read my holy book and find many scientific things written in Quran 1400 years ago. How it can be possible if it is not from creator? For example: It is mention in Quran that earth is spherical and everything revolve it its orbit. These are recent discoveries. How they can be found in Quran?

Atul: You seems to watch Zakir Naik videos. I too saw some of his videos. He has good memories but always misguide people using wrong information. All this claims you are making are already de-bunk on internet. Please watch them yourself. Further, tell me one thing. If everything was written clearly in your Quran, why no come up with heliocentric model of solar system? Why till 15th century people keep believing in geocentric model? Give me name of one arab scientist who was confirmed about the shape of earth in 12 th century when Arabs were most advance.

Me: I have to check that. I am sure there must be some.

Atul: Sure, please google it and do your research first before telling me stories.

Me: Why you are talking in such a rude manner? I am not telling you stories. It is fact. Many doctors convert to Islam after reading Quran.

Atul: People convert for different reason, but it does not prove anything. Many people leave religion as well. People are afraid to come out in public because of fear of being killed. Religious people always dominate the world.

Me: Yes because religion is true and Atheism is false. Why majority of world population believe in religion if religion is not true?

Atul: Do you think majority is always right? Truth is majority is always wrong until educated properly. Majority is illiterate. Majority lives in villages where there is no access to scientific education. Until 15th century for majority of earth population, universe was as big as our solar system. Everything what we know today is discovered in last 200 years. There was a time when majority believed that earth is flat. Let me try to make you understand from another perspective. Tell me how many religions are true in this world.

Me: Islam is the only true religion in the world.

Atul: How many people follow Islam?

Me: around 1.2 billion. What is your point?

Atul: Just wait please. This population contain both Shia and sunni right.

Me: yes.

Atul: Do you believe either are correct or any one?

Me: Of course, Sunni are correct. Shia came later.

Atul: There are around 200 million Shia in world. Correct me if I am wrong. Thus, total sunni’s will be 1 billion. Total world population is 7 billion. Hence, majority is not following Islam. Roughly, 15% follow Islam. According to you only Sunni Muslims are correct. Hence, majority is not following true religion that means majority is wrong according to your belief.

ME: That is very clever. However, Majority believe in some sort of Creator where as you do not.

Atul: I am agnostic. Therefore, I do not negate creator. However, there can be two type of god. Theist and Deist. Theist is like god you believe in. He is sustainer and creator. Whereas Deist God is creator but does not interfere in created world.  Creator may exist but I have problem with religion. Religions are manmade. See, one of the reason you believe in religion is that it gives you answers about creation of world. However, world can be created by a deist god too or perhaps by some Aliens far more advance than we do. Who knows, life on earth might be result of some experiment! I do not find any strong reason to believe in theist god.

Me: I disagree. If you will make something, you will care for it and look out for it. You care about your children or not. By children, I remember one more thing. I heard some atheist eat babies. I do not believe that, but without religion how they can be moral being.

Atul: I wanted to finish this debate here, but you bring something horrible. Have you seen any cat eating a cat? A loin eating its own babies? Thinking that someone is eating babies because he or she does not follow a religion is the most stupid thing. You do not need religion to be morals. Indeed, some religious morals are disgusting. Like in Hinduism, there is cast system, In Islam there is sex slavery. In Christianity, your confession will wipe out your sins. Using contraceptives is consider as against will of god. What kind of morality is this? Slavery was allowed in almost all-major religion at one point of time. Do you believe slavery is moral?  Owning one person as property is ethical for you. We are human and me and people like me drive morals from humanity using logical arguments and debates. I personally do not know anyone eating babies. However, I know many religious people who killed babies to make god happy.

Final Part:

Coming back to first part to your question about caring for things we made, firstly you should stop equating god with some common human. Because you believe in a god who created billions and billions of galaxies consists of billions of stars and each star has some planets and each planet has different size and geography. Out of all these planet at least on one planet life exists. Millions of animals are living on this planet. Each animal is different from other and contain microscopic gene which contain DNA and this DNA contain instruction for life.

Anyone who has so much power to create such a big and complex universe will not be similar to us. He will be infinite times intelligent and more powerful than any human on earth. Hence thinking about him in human term is absolutely wrong.

If we leave aside religious information about God, we know nothing about him or her. We can only predict his behaviour by looking to his creation. Look at the world population. Millions of babies are dying every year from starvation and disease. Many species extinct every year. Thousands of people dies every year due to natural calamities like flood, earthquake, Storm and extreme cold and hot temperature. If god is sustainer and loved humans, there will not be any of these. For me better explanation will be that the creator created the universe, set its rules and left it. Or, some Aliens created life on earth and later on they might be exterminated. There is no reason to believe in theist god who care about human being after observing the condition of this world. Why a benign god will let children die.

Me: Everything happens for a reason. When peoples start indulging in sin, then only God destroy them. Those children who die early will directly go to heaven. God did everything for good. We do not have so much intelligence to understand it.

Atul: Why those children were even born if they have to go to heavens without doing anything? What about their parents who suffer so much due to their child’s illness and finally death?

Me: My friend, as you might know, this life is a test. Those who are true to their lord remain steadfast and always praise god whatever be the situation. God will reward such people with rewards more than they ever think in after life.

Atul: Again, you are going in the realm of faith, which I cannot check objectively. You can believe anything that does not hurt others. However, I am not convince. You asked me so many question, can I ask you some question. We still have an hour.

Me: You can ask question, but just remember one thing. I am not expert (Aalim) of my religion, so I may not be able to answer your entire question. If you really want to learn about Islam, I can give you nos. and address of experts.

Atul: No, I do not need experts. Most of your religious experts I saw on tv does not know about science. Don’t worry we are not playing game where if you were not able to answer then you will lose and I will win. Let us do friendly discussion with open mind. I have no interest in making you atheist.

Me: I have very strong faith, so do not worry, you cannot change my mind. J I will be happy to answer your question.

Atul: You just now said that life is a test and this is very important idea in Judeo-Christian and Islamic theology. When god is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, why didn’t he knew before starting the world who will pass the test and who will fail in the test. He is the one who created human . If you create something, you must know about it. If he knew everything in advance, which he must as he is the creator, then what is the point of making this world?

Me: God has all the answers. I am just a human with limited knowledge. Pls. ask something else.

Atul: Is faith right way to follow religion? I mean, all religious people follow their religion based on faith. Why they are wrong and you are right?

Me: I am fortunate to born in true religion. I am not blindly following my religion. I read Quran and other religious books. They actually make sense. No one has answers to every question. However, when I read other religious scripture, I find lot of inhuman, immoral and illogical things.

Atul: Have you ever think why you can see those immoral things in others religion but followers of that religion do not?

Me: Yes, because they are bias towards their religion.

Atul: Right. And what about you? Are you not bias about your religion? May be you are not able to see what’s wrong in your religion because you too are bias!

Me: I never think about it. Moreover, not everyone is born Muslim; Islam is one of the fastest growing religion. Definitely, those new convert to Islam from other religions are not bias about Islam. They read, understand, ask questions and then embrace Islam.

Atul: Even Atheism is spreading very fast. Does that make Atheism true if it is not true already? As I said earlier, people convert for various reason. In South India, so called untouchable and backward class Hindus are embracing Christianity and Buddhism in protest for their human rights. Some Christians also offer jobs and money to poor non-Christian to convert. In some Muslim Arab countries non-Muslim, embrace Islam for getting better facilities and benefits. In US and Europe, African American are mostly embracing Islam because of discrimination they face by white people.

Most of the peoples convert to other religion because of emotional reasons rather than logical reason. Therefore, please come out of your imagination and face the reality.

ME: We all will face reality after we die. Nice meeting you. I am a blogger; if you permit, I would like to publish our conversation.

Atul: Sure. Please publish without editing any part, so that readers can decide on their own.

Me: Rest assure about it. Here is the link for my website. Can I have your mail id or Mobile no?

Atul: I prefer to remain anonymous. Thanks for bearing with me. I enjoy talking to you.

Me: Pleasure is all mine. Any time you want to learn about Islam, please message me and I will arrange some expert for you.

Atul: Oh, thanks. Keep reading books.

Me: Thanks for your advice. Good luck for your future. Hope we meet some day.

Atul: Good Bye!!!

He moved to his path and I moved to mine.

A Conversation with an Atheist

While coming back from India, my flight was delayed by two hours and as a habit, I reached airport three hours earlier to the departure of my flight. There was very less crowd on the airport and in less than one hour, I checked in. After roaming inside the duty-free and finishing my tea with Mexican sandwich, I was getting bore. Still I have to wait for three hours due to delay in my flight. While sitting with other people in waiting area I met with this interesting person named Atul.

Atul was going to Singapore and his flight too delayed by few hours. I am not very talkative person until there is something interesting to talk about. And I find that something interesting as I start asking about him.

Me: So, you are Ganesh devotee ( as he was wearing a Ganesh locket )

Atul: Oh no, never judge people by their appearance. It just look cool and my sister gifted me so I wear it. Otherwise I am quite secular person.

Me: I see. So you support congress party.

Atul: (Laughing) That is the problem in India, people think secular means Congress party. That is not true. Being secular means having no affiliation with any religion. Better, you can call me an Atheist.

Me: (Excitedly) Wow! I always wanted to meet an Atheist. I have so many questions to ask you if you allow me please.

Atul: It is quite surprising that you never met any Atheist before. Anyhow, I have a couple of hours, so you can ask anything. Please do not feel offended if I speak against any religion.

Me: I am quite a tolerant person. I do not think there will be any such issue. Here is my first question. If religion is a faith-based position as many atheist assert, how not believing in creator is not faith-based. I mean, if you have not seen Kangaroos that does not mean such creature does not exist. It simply means that you never go to Australia or you are ignorant about its existence.

Atul: Oh yeah, you have a valid point. Most of the atheist are actually agnostic like me. For simplicity, I call myself Atheist. Agnosticism is the default position. However, for all practical purpose we live like atheist. Secondly, you gave a good example of Kangaroos. They are very different from other animals and thus believing without seeing is difficult. Therefore, the default position is they may or may not exist but I do not know about such things. In case of God, more appropriate example will be a unicorn or fairies. Do you think unicorns exists?

Me: No, I don’t think they exist.

Atul: Bingo, you have not seen the whole universe or even this planet; still you are sure such thing does not exist. In similar fashion, existence of God is so unlikely that many non-believer comfortably call himself or herself confirmed Atheist.  I personally think Agnostic is right word for non-believers.

Me: What makes you so confident about your position? Are you from an Atheist Family?

Atul: No. Certainly not. My parents and my sister are religious. I studies international history.

In addition, I studied religious scriptures too. I was not impressed with any divine scripture. They are outdated ancient books written by some intellectuals of that time.

Me: You must study Quran. You will definitely find it logical and meaningful.

Atul: I am sorry but I already studied Quran and let’s not discuss it. You are a nice person. I know Muslims love Quran and their Prophet more than they love themselves. Even mild criticize will hurt your emotions. Ask me something else.

Me: No problem, I have more things to ask. Are you not afraid? What will happen if you are wrong?

Atul: My friend, we all can be wrong. However, we must live as per best information and knowledge available. Living in ignorance and thinking of heavens will not make your life successful. Even if I will be wrong, I will live my life in accordance with best available facts and evidence. I live with open eyes and mind. I live my life to fullest and make most out of it. How about you? If you are wrong, you waste whole life, which you will never get again!

ME: Please do not be worry about me. I have full confidence over my religion. More than a billion people follow my religion. They are not fool. Many of them are scientist, engineer and doctors. Moreover, if I was wrong, I will waste only this small life but if I will be right, I will be in eternity of bliss and enjoyment.

Atul: Pascal Wager! My friend PW does not make proper sense until you already know which religion is correct. Your overconfidence based on faith not on evidence and thus you can be wrong. There are several religions and every religious person think that he is right.

Me: Pls explain me how PW does not make sense?

Atul: The biggest problem with this argument is that first of all we do not know which religion and which god to follow? Can a person follow Roman and Greek gods will be saved by god?????

Me: Tell me how this world come into existence if there is no creator.

Atul: Ha, ha ha. Why you all religious people ask same question?

How to conquer your fear:

One of the most important thing that holds us back from achieving our goal is Fear. There are different kind of fears.

Fear of Failure

Fear of disrespect

Fear of rejection

Fear of injuries

Fear of losing something valuable

Fear of death

Fear of future

Fear of past mistakes

Fear of Unknown

There can be many other kind of fears, however, there is only one solution to conquer your fear –Face your fear. All humans are same. No one has shark’s teeth. If you fear any of your teacher, boss or even your parents then meet them often and talk to them, spent time with them. Soon you will realize they are just human like you. running away from your fear will not solve your proble.

Fear has profound effect on our personality and daily life. We know about what will happen to us after our death through religious scriptures and science. Both, religious scriptures and science, gives us different picture of this mystery.  Science tells us that as we die, we cease to exist and that is the end of everything for us. Whereas religion tells us that death is the beginning of new and real life, where, we will be rewarded or punished. Reward or punishments will be based on our deeds in this world. Punishments will be so severe that mare listening about it frighten you. Fear start playing its role. Fear of unknown start troubling us. We start worrying about our ultimate fate. As our age increases, people becomes more religious. They have no courage to find truth or listen to another religious preacher.

Fear plays very important role in holding religious followers to their religion. I mean, you born in an alien world knowing nothing about your pre-existence, except what your parents told you. You were a combination of sperm and ovum called Zygote- a fertilized ovum. Before that, you never existed in physical world. Religion has enough information to quench your curiosity. Since, your childhood parents and teacher told you that lord will punish you if you some bad things. This fear of punishment makes a permanent home in your mind. As you grow up, you want to stick with your religion to escape punishment from lord. Your subconscious brain is so afraid that you will never allow your thinking brain to argue against it. Even if your brain wants to rebel because of facts and evidence, you console your brain using Pascal wager argument: “Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing”

He was right in his argument. Nevertheless, Mr. Pascal forget to answer most important question, i.e. which God or Which Faith?  Does he meant a Christian God with a son and Holy Spirit? Alternatively, does faith means Islamic faith or Hindu faith or Greek Faith or Zoroastrians Faith.

Even though, Pascal wager argument is flawed, it is enough to console a fearful mind. You never try to search for truth because you are so afraid of losing faith in your religion that will cause you eternal torments. Your logic fails to tell you that, if you follow false religion you will waste both lives. The only way to succeed in both the world is to find the true faith and follow it passionately. Read your scriptures and others too. Take out some time and do some research. Spending one year in searching of true faith is more important than following wrong faith blindly. Birth is not the right way to choose your faith. Read my detailed post on this topic here.

Many people do not even realize that they are suffering because of fear. First, we need to recognize our fear to conquer them. Pin point your fear. Think what is holding you back. Is it your stammer? Is it your fear to lose job? Is it the risk involve? Is it your loved one or is it fear of your past mistakes? Once you pin point your fear, you can look for solution.

Fear of failure is the most common fear we encounter in our life. However, there is no point in fearing from failure. Failures are good. You can read more about it in my blog by clicking here. Besides that, if you want to avoid failure, then you need to start with positive frame of mind. You must think about success not failures. Start with success in your mind. It will give you enthusiasm, courage and confidence to win in any situation. Do not waste energy thinking about failures. Make a plan to win, and stick to it without worrying about outcome.

Start Facing your fears and you will see them vanishing. As you run away from your fears, you make fear grow and it becomes harder to conquer them. But for a successful life, eliminating fear is necessary.

Why Christianity does not makes sense?

Disclaimer: Please do not read it if you are allergic to truth or criticism. This post is for those who care for truth. My intention is not to disrespect or hurt anyone. However, Religion is sensitive issue for its follower, so even mild criticism can hurt them.

This is my third post about Christianity. I love Christians. In general, they are wonderful, peace loving and lovely people. May be that is the reason I am more concern about them. There are several reason why Christianity does not make sense to me.

  • Christian churches are full of false propaganda and lies: Churches are not only corrupt but also spreading all types of lies. They use money to convert poor people’s living in developing and under developing countries to Christianity.
  • Christianity is against human nature: Air, food, water, cloth, sex and shelter are basic needs of human being. If you do not provide them legitimately, people will find ways to get them illegitimately. Putting restriction on marriages for Pope, Father, Nuns and other clergy cause more harm than good. Churches backyard became graveyard of newborn babies.
  • No original copies of Hebrew Bible exists. Only translations are available. During translation, that too were changed.
  • Bible prophesies coming of another Prophet. Even after 2000 years, Christians were not able to find him. Why God wants a population of around two billion Christian to live in ignorance for so long period? There is no time in religious history when no Prophet came for 2000 years without any reason! As most of the Jews failed to recognise Jesus as messenger, Christian failed to recognise Prophet Mohammad! In that case, all Christians are following wrong religion.
  • Ever since churches came into existence, they forced biblical worldview to its adherent even without confirming it. Just based on blind faith in Bible, which was already corrupted, they want every Christian to believe that earth is 6000 years old and it is centre of universe. They burn and forced people to change their views for hundreds of years until it was proved that earth is not centre of universe.
  • Christian believe that Jesus Christ died a painful death to redeem us from original sin. Moreover, they believe Jesus christ is son of God and he himself is a God. If he is God why he can’t forgive everyone for the sins without sacrificing himself? Is he not capable of forgiving without sacrifice? Who made this rule, which he need to obey?
  • After making the universe, God rest on the seventh day! For detail refer to my earlier post by clicking here.
  • If you confess your sins in front of a pope in church confession box, your sins will be wiped out. In any religions, this is the simplest way of forgiveness I found. If forgiveness is so easy, no one will be afraid of punishment and everyone will involve in mischief.
  • Bible supports slavery, misogyny, killing of non-Christian, Genocide, sexism etc. Some Verses are quoted below:

Samuel 15:3: “This is what the Lord Almighty says … ‘Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ “

Moses’s call to kill witches, in Exodus 22:18: “Do not allow a sorceress to live.”

Ephesians 5:22, “Wives, submit to you husbands as to the Lord”; and similar advice for slaves in 1 Peter 2:18: “Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the cruel.”

Exodus 21:20-21 – “If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.”
Exodus 35:2 – “For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.”

Christian Apologist always defend such quotes from bible as cherry picking. However, Even if one thing is wrong or immoral in whole scripture of any religion, the whole thing is wrong. God does not make mistakes. No divine scripture can contain immoral and false information. Calling it cherry picking will not serve the purpose. Christian must accept that Bible is corrupted, and contain passages written by humans.

GOD means Christian God.

First of all thanks for those people who piss me off by their flawed arguments and illogical content. It gives me new ideas to write a new post. This Post is about concept of God in various religion and culture and how wrongly we start writing or talking about God without explaining first which God we are talking about? There are theist, deist and agnostics. All of them believe in some kind of creator. However, every group has different concept of creator. Even in each group, different religion has different views or belief about Creator.

Normally, we do not translate names when we translate text from any language to English. However because of Christianity being most populous religion and English being international language from centuries the word God is being used for all Gods of different religions and even for Gods with different attributes. Not only that, it also has a plural and feminine form. I will use Supreme Being for the God in this post to differentiate the God of Christianity from other religion.

In Islam Supreme Being is known as Allah. Allah ever exists. He is neither created nor born not will die. He does not have any wife, son, daughter, mother or father.  He is the one, nothing is like him nor is he like anything.

“He did not beget (give birth) and He was not begotten (given birth to).” (Surat Al-Ikhlas, Chapter 112, verse 3).

There are many other attributes of Allah which need to be considered to properly define who Allah is. For example, Allah is forgiving, merciful, just, omnipotent and omnipresent. He has not made any demigod or goddess or anyone who has share in his powers.

There is a mark difference in the definition of Allah and Christian God. A Christian God first and foremost is believed to have a begotten son. The Son himself is a god! Not only that, there is a holy spirit which is also part of God himself. In this way, Christians believe in trinity.  Hence, translating God as Allah or Allah as God is wrong practice.

Coming to Hinduism, Hindus also have concept of one Parabrahman or Supreme Being. However, his nature is unknown. He created other Gods and goddess who took birth on earth as their Avatars. Like Ram and Krishn were believed to be Avatars. One of my fellow blogger told me “ There are five eternal entities. (1)Jiva – the creatures, (2) Ishwar- the deities which include indra, brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and all. (3)Maya- the only non living entity which controls time and our actions.  (4)Brahman (Akshar/chidakash/satchitanand) the cause of creation of infinite universes. (5) Parabrahman/Purna-purushottam/Adi Vishnu : the one who transcends all and even Akshar. Although Akshar is the highest entity, Purna Purushottam is the one who transcends Akshar.”

From above, you can see there is not just one God doing everything in hindu mythology. There are layers of God. Translating Hindu God as “God” is wrong. However, people do it all the time for simplicity or because of influence of English and Christian religion. It is like translating Modi as Trump in English. It is absurd to translate names. It is more absurd when we translate any other religious deity or supreme being as God. Before starting any argument or debate about God, we must first define which God we are talking about!

Part-I: Are we bias towards Our Own Religion?

There are several reasons based on which you can believe in any particular religion. Some of them are the direct source of faith and others are indirect, and there are some which just provide strength to faith when it already exists. Is there any logic or reasoning involved or believers are inclined towards their religion? For example if one believe god exist because Science does not have all the answers to the mysteries of the world, then does it make any one particular religion true or all religion will have equal chance of being true? And if all religion has the equal chance to be true then why one believes in a particular religion instead of any other religion. Why do we make our mind that all other religions are not true even without learning about them? Does the existence of god gives any particular religion right to claim its divinity? Or are we just deluded? Let us check each of religious biases one by one on which religious faith is founded.

  • Birth in particular religion:

Birth in a particular religion is the most common base of following a religion and yet it is the most bias towards the parental religion. It is very rare that we find a person who did intensive research before he found and embrace any particular religion. On the contrary, our parents told us what religion we born in and from the childhood we are labeled with that religion. They start embedding religious values, virtues and practices and fear of god in our subconscious mind. When we grow up, we start looking towards the world through colored glasses of faith that are permanently fixed on our eyes. Our brain accepts no logic against our religion, but if exactly same thing we found in other religion, we criticize it unknowingly. We accept all illogical and inhumane practice of our religion as sacred, moral, unquestionable and without any doubt as embedded by our society and family. Even without reading our scripture we believe everything written in it is true and good, based on our blind faith. We are so over confident and deluded that we neither feel any need to read our scriptures nor we check out what is written in others scripture.

We all are victims of bad parenting and so were they, and so will be our future generations if we will not abolish bigotry. It is something for which we should criticize parents, and we must learn from them and should not repeat same mistake with our children.  There is no point in bombarding kids with religiosity before they developed critical thinking. Let them flourish first. Let them grow and go to school. Let them learn different views and then slowly you can tell them one’s religious views without forcing anything on them. Tell them, some believe that god exists some don’t and there are some other who are in doubt as they can’t disprove the existence of god. Let them grow to an age of maturity and let them decide what they feel more logical and rational. We should be there in case they need some help or if they reach to some inhuman, illogical conclusions. That will be more sensible parenting, rather than imposing your views without knowing yourself why you believed and follow them!

Leaving aside the question whether or not blind faith or just faith is the right way to follow religion, the very first question which must strike in every one’s mind is this- “Does my birth in this particular religion makes it true? Is it not a wishful thinking? Does God approve this plan? Should not I make an enquiry of available scriptures, in the light of Science, claimed to be written or inspired by god himself? Am I deluded like billions other who feel their religion is true because their parents say so or because they born in that particular religion?

It is possible that you are the lucky one (one out of thousand) who born in a true faith by chance, which is very improbable, but more chances are that you are not the lucky one! Therefore, the best way to judge whether you are born in the right religion or not, is by reading of your scriptures with full understanding and educating yourself scientifically. It will enhance your belief even if you are the lucky one and if you are not, you will be able to live life more realistically.

To be continue…

For many people such an elaborate explanation on this topic is not required. But in Indian sub-continent, it is very hard to make people believe that all religions are different and we will not go to heaven by following all religions. In 15th century AD arose Bhakti and Sufism movement in India. Though both were belongs to different religions (Bhakti to Hinduism and Sufism to Islam), both had same message of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. At the same time, a new religion was founded in Indian subcontinent which preached that Hinduism and Islam both are true paths to reach god, this religion is called Sikhism.

There can be various ways to categorise religions. Here I am categorising religions based on no. of God it allowed to worship.  Mainly there are three types of Religion:

  • Monotheistic Religion like most of Abrahamic Religions, e.g .Islam and Judaism
  • Pantheist or Idol worshippers like Hinduism, Jainism, Chinese religions such as Confucius
  • Philosophies without God: Like Buddhism , Taoism

There can be at most one religion at a time which can be true. Reason is quite evident. If we analyse different religion we will observe, most of religion are different. They have two parts-one is spiritual and other is social. There are some similarities in social parts which give rise to this paradox of all religion are true and same, such as: always speak truth, never steal, never kill any human, help poor, give charity, take care of your elders, be kind etc.

Even in social parts, there are many marked differences in religions. Take the example of Islam with respect to Hinduism. Hinduism promote vegetarianism  whereas Islam promote Non vegetarianism, Islam allow 4 marriages while in Hinduism monk and sadhus don’t want to get married and think it is something to avoid, they will be more pure if not married. There are some other Hindu’s who practice polygamy one women having more than one husband. In Islam, groom has to give dowry (Mehar) where as in Hinduism; Bride family has to give dowry. Hinduism has a rigid caste system, in Islam there is no caste system. Muslim buried their dead where as Hindu burned them. Still think both religions are same and made by same creator? Think again. How same creator can tell two different things to two different messengers or avatars?

Now if we observe spiritual part, which is real part of religion we found enormous difference between Islam, Hinduism Christianity.

Islam is strictly mono theistic religion, whereas Hinduism is not, while Christian believe in trinity. In Islam, Allah has no shape and image to compare, he neither has son nor has any wife. He is one and omnipotent –Creator of whole universe and everything within the universe; he is neither born nor will die. He can’t be worshipped as an image as he does not have any image. Hinduism is just opposite of it. They have many gods and goddess and they are not forbidden to worship any creation as each creation has part of god (ansh). Not only that, cow is sacred animal which is also worshipped. There is a very rigid caste system imposed by Hinduism.

Though Christian believes in one supreme god but at the same time believe that he has a son which differentiates Christianity from Islam. That son is none other than Jesus Christ. Besides God, they worship Son and Holy Spirit. But they do not worship creation and cow is not sacred for them so they are different from Hinduism and Islam. Hence, all the three religion has different perspective of God. Now let’s come to prayers.

Muslim prays 5 times a day facing towards Kabba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. They do not worship any image and do not involve any mediator to reach god. Muslims have direct link to Allah through prayers. Whereas, in  Christianity,  Christ is the medium to reach god. Hindus also use all sort of Avatars and mediators to reach various gods, besides that they have thousands of other god and goddess to worship. They even worship forces of nature and animals. Their vadas are full of hymns of sun god, water and air god . Christianity does not have any such gods but believed in trinity. They do not have any caste system. They worship mainly on Sunday in church and praise God and his son. Most importantly, in Hinduism we found the concept of karma and reincarnation which is absent in Islam, Christianity and all Abrahamic faiths. In Islam and Christianity you live once and then on judgment day you will be resurrected. But in Hinduism, some believe, as in Buddhism and Jainism cycle of birth and rebirth continues till you attain moksha other Hindu believe in heaven and hell like all major religions .One more very big difference between Islam and other religion is that, Muslim believe on the authority of Quran that there is no other true religion left on the face of earth and Prophet Mohammad is the last messenger and hence everyone has to follow his teachings otherwise they will not go to heaven. Christian believes the same about Christ. It is only in India that a fallacy of all path lead to same destination is available which they must realize.

Many rivers can originate from different place and merge in same ocean but not all. Many paths can lead you to your destination but not all. In the same way all religion will not take you to the Supreme Being, the creator of universe. Some will make you go astray other will misguide you some other will take you to such a long journey that your life will finish but you will not reach to your destination. Only one path can take you directly to your creator. Every believer of God should follow that one path alone.

I can go on and on to explain how all religions can’t be true at a time and how they are different from each other. But I think this much difference is enough for any sane person with even little intelligence.
